SPICES, CANNED
for long term storage
 |
When I was a kid, my Mom
bought her seasonings just like everyone else did: in
small paper bags at our local grocery store's bulk bins.
It was just how it was done.
Years later, I was hired
to help a man run his spice business. It was called "SPICE
KING". He had invented the concept of putting
spices into small jars and selling them through grocery
stores.
One day I asked him how
long spices would store (after noticing his storeroom
was full of thousands of dusty barrels and boxes). He
told me that most spices, if kept from humidity and oxygen,
would store hundreds of years!
I have been searching for
long term storage spices for decades. All I can find are
the standard packaged spices in plastic bottles, plastic
bags or in bulk. Plastic will not keep air out for long.
Plastic packaging is only good for a few years, so I decided
to do it myself!

I designed a "spice unit"
that incorporates 12 of the most widely used spices:
Oregano
Chili Pepper
BBQ Spice
Onion Powder
Taco Seasoning
Salt, Iodized
Sage, ground
Rosemary
Black Pepper
Garlic Powder
Seasoning Salt
Basil, Ground |

Can
size: 4.5H" X 3"W
Each can is packed by weight, not by volume.
Each can is nitrogen flushed, vacuum
packed, with a desiccant pack and oxygen absorber added. These
spices will be as
fresh in 100 years as they are right now, if stored properly
(out of high heat and moisture).
The diameter of the can is exactly that
of a dog food can, so if you wanted to, you could
puncture the spice can of your choice, use the can as a shaker,
and keep it safe with a dog
food can plastic lid (which you can get where ever dog food
is sold.)
